As always, I am hopeful to find someone that I can smile at or spark a conversation with.
Get on the train and I look around, not very many friendly faces. I resort to taking a power nap instead.
Arriving at Churchgate station, I take a leisurely stroll to my clients office. I make a pitt stop at my local coffee joint on station. Make my order. I look around. There is a woman sitting all by herself. I sit down next to her to wait for my coffee.
The conversation went like this...
[Jason]: "Hey good morning! How are you?"
Her face turned to me in shock. It was like a slow motion movement of the neck turning anti-clockwise. Facing me was this stranger with an absolutely blank and stunned look on her face.
[Stranger]: "uumm.. yeah good. How are you?"
A perplexed expression emerges.
[Jason]: "Yeah good! I struggle with Monday mornings! How was your weekend?"
[Stranger]:.."Yeah good - they are never long enough"
The blank look returns, her head tilts a little.
[Jason]: "By the way, my name is Jason."
I extend my hand out as an invitation for her to shake my hand.
[Stranger]: "hahahaha Oh my god!!! I was thinking, do we know each other?! Did he mistaken me for someone else? That is funny. My name is Tanya. "
She freely expressed the little voice that was going on in her head... Now a smile appears.
[Jason]: "Oh hehehe. That explains why you looked soo shocked!"
.... A conversation starts flowing.

We often shy away from initiating or taking the first step for fear of what the reaction could be. More often than not, it's the other person that is fearful.
I'm glad that I took a step out of my comfort zone.
The conversation might have or might have not made a difference to her morning but it definitely made a difference to mine.
It is awkward not being able to speak freely and openly. If you ever read this Tanya, you made a difference to my Monday morning and it was really nice being able to be comfortable and create a conversation with a stranger.
